A few months ago I was commissioned to help plan and style a 30th birthday party with a Burlesque theme. How exciting! This is truly a chance to put my theatrical flair into practice and deliver a seamless soiree experience with stunning theming and incredible entertainment.
The birthday girl listened to my ideas and took my advice which was so refreshing and the results spoke for themselves.
We decided on a red & black palette and at the last minute added some purple and white so it didn’t look too gothic. We turned the basement function room of a local tavern into a lush, dimly lit boudoir, exploding with feathers, deep red lighting and cosy, theatrical nooks for guests to enjoy. Cocktail tables were decked in black velvet with alternating red & purple runners with diamante buckles. Feather centrepeices towered above guests heads and the room glittered with the glow of votive and scented candles.
A sumptuous lolly buffet was set with lace-decorated noodle boxes for guests to fill. In keeping with the theme, each lolly jar was decorated with a red & black garter and crystals were scattered across the table.
All guests were instructed to dress to impress and NO-ONE made a token effort. The lavish costumes of every party-goer filled the floor with corsets, tulle, feathers & finery.
A theme such as this is of course nothing without spectacular entertainment. Working closely with Aerial Angels we utlised promotional models and a roving ballerina….with a live snake. All guests were greeted on arrival by our host and hostess and given a feather boa to get them in the mood. The models later roved the room and posed for photos with excited guests. They also handed out glasses of pink champagne, embellished with floating red hibiscus flowers.
Medusa was a huge hit, a ballerina seductively roaming the room, all the while performing on red pointe shoes.
The Megajam dancers treated guests to a visual dance feast to tracks from the Burlesque album as well as classics such as Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz.
The corset cake was cut, and the whole venue danced the night away to live music by Jade Louise.
